ACCU Conference 2005
Wednesday 20 April to Saturday 23 April 2005, the Randolph Hotel, Oxford
We have a great programme for you to enjoy and participate in. And participation is certainly encouraged: one of the key features which make the ACCU Conference one of the most enjoyable events around is the amazing atmosphere generated by all of you attending. As Herb Sutter comments:
"ACCU in particular is always a blast because the audience is always highly interactive and supercharged."
We would like to thank all our sponsors, without whom the conference could not happen. Blackwell's have been particularly longstanding supporters of the event and the ACCU in general, so make sure you spend some time (and cash) at their bookstall. We are also grateful to Microsoft for all their support, Oracle for joining us as sponsors this year, ReportLab - whose technology produced this brochure, Trolltech, Perforce, NAG, Parasoft and all the exhibitors.
This year's event features keynote talks by Bjarne Stroustrup, Jim Coplien, Ross Anderson and Kevlin Henney. And, as always at the ACCU conference, we feature the highest concentration of C++ expertise to be found at any event, worldwide. Herb Sutter leads us through a side-by-side comparison of generic types in .NET, Java, and C++, while David Abrahams shares his expertise in C++ Template Metaprogramming.

At this year's conference we look at the new features in J2SE 5.0, with Angelika Langer taking a look at the new wildcards language construct. Meanwhile Benedict Heal asks What are Annotations For?, and demonstrates how we can now effectively extend the Java language.
In a programme that addresses a wide range of subjects including development process, analysis, design and patterns, further highlights include Frank Buschmann discussing Model-Driven Development, Jutta Eckstein considering Planning, Estimation and Correction in an agile Project, and Kevlin Henney and Allan Kelly guiding us through Writing Your First Pattern.
This year we have a full day track devoted to security programming, with a focus on methods for writing secure programs, while the three-day Python track offers a roundup of all the exciting developments in the Python world over the last year which has seen Python gathering steam at Google, Nokia, Microsoft and lots of other interesting places.
With all this going on, don’t forget the great opportunity you have to engage in dialogue with your fellow software professionals. Most of all - enjoy the conference!
